I have been working my tookus off this summer (pun intended!) in a massive effort to lose some of this graduate school weight.  You know ... negligence on my part, long school hours, many hours sitting at my desk at the Very Large Hospital, exhaustion and whatever food was fastest and easiest to put in my mouth.

This, of course, is on top of the comfort weight I had already put on when Shoes and I started dating.  You know that story?  The one that includes lots of dinners out, bottles of wine, movie watching.

Enter Summer Project #1:  A complete overhaul of my diet, daily cardio and lifting, and a just say no to delicious Portland beers.

And, the introduction of extra protein in my diet.

Directly after the introduction of protein powder, the prompt introduction of gagging.

Good Lord, people.  How do you DO this??  How can something so seeming innocuous wreak such havoc?

Immediate mature thought?  Give me something to chase this with ... NOW!

And then I remembered I'm not an alcoholic, and that I had bought the Dr. Pepper for just a taste and that it would be most inappropriate to my health plan to chug it.

I settled for:

And I settled for adding a small spoonful of Honey Greek Yogurt.
But still.

That stuff is terrible.

Still, I'm pleased with the weight loss and inches lost.  No pictures of that, sorry.  That would be most indecent.

Now, I just have to figure out how to carry this through the school year ... the real challenge ...

I mix my protein with fat-free milk. When I have the chocolate powder I mix in a tablespoon of peanut butter.

Good for you for sticking with it this summer and you will some how manage to find a way to continue through the school year! It will be 5am workouts for myself. Yuck.

Dear heart, are you telling me that you drink this stuff in JUST a glass of fat free milk? You're tough!! Will you do it in front of me when you come to visit? It'll be just like fear factor!

I followed the Oxygen recipe of a cup of fat free milk, a cup of strawberries and 2 scoops of the powder and could barely stomach it. And let's talk peanut butter - do you use the natural stuff or the almond butter? Why is eating healthy so expensive? It's classist.

Well Lisa I've sweated away my pounds since working in the warehouse all summer. Today I ate a lot of garbage, but it was so hot and sweaty that I'm pretty sure I burned through every last calorie I ate. Unfortunately you don't have a hot sweaty warehouse to work in so I guess that won't work, but aren't their pills or bars or something other than nasty drinks to take to get what you need to lose weight. yuck. I hope you find an alternative.

@Maria - the fact that you lost weight while in grad school is most impressive!! Yay!! It's always the last pounds that are so stubborn!! I have 10 to lose to get to pre-Shoes weight, but I doubt it will happen, so I'll settle for 5. :)

@Elizabeth - I don't know how you work in that warehouse! That's just crazy - and you guys are consistently warmer than we are up here!

Oh how I wish I could drink that stuff, as nasty as it is! It is migraine in powder form. :( I am envious of all the stuff people can use for weight loss that is off limits to me. I just get to run around like a mad woman and eat carrots.

    Yuk.

I'm proud of you for choking it down!! Good job, you look fabulous!!

    Love you!
